Tortilla Jo’s is a Mexican restaurant and tequila bar located at Downtown Disney. They re-opened their doors at the end of July and are currently offering outdoor dining. You can walk-in or make a reservation which directs you to the Disney website. We came Tuesday afternoon around 1 pm for lunch and it was relatively empty!

Hours of Operation

Tortilla Jo’s is open daily to the public. Hours are below:

Sunday – 10:30 AM – 8:30 PM
Monday – Thursday 11 AM – 8 PM
Friday 11 AM – 9 PM
Saturday 10:30 AM – 9 PM

Cleanliness & Safety

Employees are wearing gloves and masks at all times. The bathroom inside is available for customers to use. It’s kept very clean and you can wash your hands in there before eating. There are hand sanitizers around the park, but I didn’t see any that were easily accessible near the outdoor seating area. I would suggest bringing a travel-sized sanitizer bottle if you want one at the table. The seating seems spaced out and they have umbrellas set up to provide shade. We were seated further away from other people, so I felt pretty safe.

Menu

You can access their menu via the website. Upon seating they have a QR code to scan so you can access the menu on your smartphone. There are lots of choices and the food items range +/- $20. Most items on the menu incorporate meat, but you can modify meals to fit your dietary needs.

Free Chips – A LOT of Them

Once you are seated, someone will come by and bring the table a huge bowl of tortilla chips and salsa. Be careful if you’re really hungry. I was famished and gorged on these and got full. The chips are hot, crispy, big, and salted! Their salsa tastes so good and fresh too! It’s so easy to fill up on these before you even order! My tip to you is, don’t be like me and have some self-control so you can enjoy your entree!

Jo’s Baja Salad Bowl – $22

Grilled chicken or steak, black beans, Mexican rice, lettuce, Monterey Jack cheese, pico de gallo, fresh guacamole, corn, sour cream, Mexican Romesco dressing

Since I loaded up on the table chips, I wanted to eat something on the lighter side. I ordered Jo’s Baja Salad Bowl with grilled chicken and asked for the rice on the side. I chose to get the rice on the side so that I can better control my refined carb intake. Normally, I get the dressing on the side too and I completely forgot. The dressing wasn’t overloaded and quite tasty, so it actually worked out well. It tasted like a fresh, roasted smokey tomato/ sauce with a hint of sweetness from the bell peppers or something. I also appreciate that they didn’t overdo it with the toppings, it was perfectly portioned. The rice was good – soft and warm and the grilled chicken was a little dry. Next time, I would skip the meat entirely. For a salad, it’s priced a little high at $22, but then again, you are at Downtown Disney.

Baja Ceviche – $17

“Wild Mexican Shrimp, fresh market fish, cucumber, lime juice, serrano chile, onions, cilantro, avocado”

My friend ordered the Baja Ceviche. On a hot day, this is perfect and refreshing. The avocado looked fresh and the seafood pieces were solid. For $17, I think the plate was a little on the small side. It’s more like a little one-person snack or appetizer that you can dip your table chips with.

Tacos De Carne Asade – $21

“grilled steak with adobo sauce, onion-cilantro mix”

The steak tacos came with three tacos, some beans, Mexican rice, MORE chips (not pictured), and salsa. I didn’t try this as I don’t really eat beef, so I can’t give you many thoughts on it. It looked to be a decent amount for $21, from what my eyes could tell.

Overall, it was nice to sit outdoors. The staff was friendly and made sure our waters were refilled. Thank you, for working so hard in that hot weather! I’m happy I finally got to experience this place. We didn’t order any drinks, but many looked good on the menu. I think I would try their enchiladas next time!
