Magic Kingdoms is a Disney game available for a free download on the App Store or the Google Play store. Like most free games, you could end up spending real money on in-app purchases that help you advance further in the game. Magic Kingdom’s was released in 2016 by Gameloft , but I just started playing since the quarantine of 2020. I’ve got a solid 4 months now of gameplay and overall, I would rate this game a 4.5 out 5!

The storyline is centered around a theme park that looks a lot like Disneyland, California Adventure, and perhaps the Magic Kingdom. Maleficent has cursed the kingdom and it is your job to clear the curse. As you progress in the storyline, you unlock different characters and attractions as you simultaneously build your own kingdom.

The Music is Magical

The instrumental background music is the best part of this game. I find it to be very relaxing. What is it about Disney instrumentals that just really hit those joy receptors? I always turn up the music while playing versus most games where I leave my phone silencer on. While we were on lockdown and nothing was open, playing this game was like a pacifier for me not being able to go to the parks.

Game Characters & Intros

Flynn’s Level Up and Character Intro

Unlocking different characters and acquiring them is personally my main goal of the game. I love collecting the characters! The animation and design graphics are superb. Once you progress in the kingdom’s story mode, you are able to unlock new characters. To welcome a character into your kingdom, you must collect a certain amount of items and potions that are required. After the resources are gathered, it takes real-time to have them join your kingdom family. There are also some characters that are available for real money purchases. The best part is that they each have their own unique character intros.

Cute Game Animations

Once characters are in your kingdom, they will acquire a variety of tasks that they can complete for potions. The tasks are related to their personal character storyline and are usually something familiar to their character in the movies/ TV shows. As you level up your characters, more tasks will become available for longer increments of time and more reward potions.

Special Events

Pretty often, Magic Kingdoms will run special event challenges for a set period of time. During this time there will be special quests to complete and opportunities to acquire new characters. You will send characters to complete game quests and depending on your score, earn rewards based on how far you get.

Thrills of the Game Chests

Most thrills that I experience in the game come from spending real money. I know some people are against spending real money on in-app game purchases. If that is you, no worries, you don’t have to spend real money in this game to experience the thrill. There are a variety of chests that you can purchase or collect. Depending on what kind of chest you get, it will contain resources, decorations, characters, concessions, or attractions.

Legendary Chests

The “Legendary” chest is in my opinion, the most valuable chest. Sometimes the game will give you one for free for collecting daily login rewards. I think that the most prized item to receive in those chests is a character. For $9.99, Magic Kingdoms normally runs a 6x chest special. You get 6 chests and in each one, you earn a chance to get a character or an attraction. It’s a gamble, like playing roulette.

The chest will spin the different items you can win in bubbles and you tap when you’re ready to reveal the award. This process gets me on the edge of my seat. My first chest ever purchased, I got 5 characters. Every chest pack I have bought after that seemed to only yield 2-3 characters for every $9.99 spent. If you get characters, it’s well worth it!

Final Thoughts

  • This game is connected to real-time. You will send characters on quests for periods of time and it’s your job to collect the potion earnings when done.
  • There is a Happiness Meter for your Kingdom, so if you don’t log on often, your kingdom’s happiness starts to decrease.
  • Advancing in this game is not the easiest, it takes time and patience! You know what they say though, nothing good ever comes easy!
  • It’s addicting! It’s very easy to spend money on this game, so make sure you are being smart with your choices!
