It seems that lately for me Disney sequels have carried a certain familiar worry within myself: more spectacle, less magical stories lacking soul. Zootopia 2 does not fall into that category. Honestly, it stands out as the best Disney movie in a long time, for me.
The storyline and the message of this movie is about identity and the uncomfortable space between who we are and who we’re expected to be.
Without giving too much away, Zootopia 2 introduces a new character: a snake. Through him, the film explores how prejudice exists in Zootopia—especially toward certain species—and how deeply those assumptions can shape someone’s life before they even get a chance to define themselves. At its heart, Zootopia 2 isn’t just about solving a case; it’s about deciding who you want to be, and what lengths you will take to prove who you are, especially in dire situations.
Character Growth
It was wonderful to see the relationship between Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde to evolve in ways that were heartfelt. They’re not frozen in time for the sake of nostalgia. Their relationship both as partners and as friends has changed and we get to see that evolution throughout the whole movie.
Choices in who you choose to be seem to be the major theme in this movie.
A Bigger World
The world of Zootopia seems bigger and better with so many different characters. We see old and new, and re-visiting the older characters felt good and not overdone. The city is bigger and reflects amongst a number of different species.
Humor & Heart
This movie was FUNNY! So many quick jokes, cultural references that felt relevant to the world today and funny characters.
Not only was it funny but this movie surely pulled on your heartstrings. Heck, I even teared up a bit in the end.
The Blueprint for Better Sequels
What makes Zootopia 2 special isn’t just that it’s good—it’s that it shows how sequels should be made!
- Respect the original without repeating it
- Let characters change
- Expand the world with intention
In an era where sequels often feel like obligations, Zootopia 2 feels like a continuation that needed to exist. So, get out and go see it!
